The Great Gatsby Essay Example for Free
The Great Gatsby Essay In the novel The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald he explains to the reader in a distinctive way who Jay Gatsby is. This new man who is secretly in love with Daisy and has lots of new money, is living in West Egg., this mysterious character is revealed to us by the narrator Nick Caraway. Rumours and facts are revealed to us in the first five chapters. At the beginning of the novel, Jay Gatsby is described to us as a mysterious man who is really shy; we also know nothing about him. He purchases a mansion in West Egg. He through lots of parties to gain social status and to gain access to Daisy. Rumours help distinguish this character a lot. The rumours that you read come to you as being true. However the reality is that it isnââ¬â¢t. ââ¬Å"One time he killed a man who had found out it was nephew to Von Hidenburg.â⬠Von Hidenburg was a German field marshal in WW1. Nick makes us think this Gatsby is being completely truthful or is slightly over exaggerating his story. But before Nick completely names his as untruthful then Jay Gatsby brings out a large amount of evidence to back up his heroism. ââ¬Å"Major jay Gatsby, I read. Then it is all true.â⬠Jay Gatsby enters the novel as a shy and mysterious character who has recently came into a great large deal of new money. Invention and Impact of the Three Phase Motor
Invention and Impact of the Three Phase Motor Introduction The main purpose of this essay is to convey a realisation to the reader of how the induction motor sped up the wheels of progress and sparked the second industrial revolution by effectively improving the efficiency of electrical power generation, creating the possibility of long distance electrical distribution. One third of the worlds electricity consumption is used for running induction motors driving pumps, fans, compressors, elevators and machinery of various types. (Lawson, 2005) The light that is illuminating the room you are in while reading this most likely powered by a generator influenced by Nikola Teslas design of the three phase induction motor. Any mechanical gadget or machine such as a washing machine, vacuum cleaner or toothbrush, are all powered using a three phase rotating magnetic force based on Teslas basic principle. Nikola Tesla was a 19th century inventor which thought up the idea for the use of a rotating magnetic field in 1882 and finally invented the induction motor in 1887 and got it patented by 1888.Ãâà Development of the three-phase induction motor began in 1891 by a company named The General Electric Company, who Tesla sold his patent to, and achieved its first practical induction motor in 1892. A year after this the GE company developed a line of polyphaser 60Hz induction motors for mass commercial sale. Once in the 21th century, power generation is widely demanded and supplied throughout the globe. The price of power has hugely reduced in the past 100 years as it is so easy to generate it with this simple design. As it been around for a century now it is familiar to people in the electrical industry and has fewer parts as opposed to other motors making it an easy installation. Impact of the Induction Motor at Time of its Invention When the first induction motor was invented and introduced to the public, there was what was called a War of the Currents which was birthed from the objective of electrical power transmission across the country and illuminating the nation. In 1878 inventor Thomas Edison noticed a market for bringing electric light directly into a persons home or business. These direct current systems would be sold to cities across America. Edison essentially controlled all technical development and from that made it a standard for lighting. Direct current (DC) worked well with Edisons incandescent lamps, which were the main supplying loads of the system. DC could be stored in batteries, so generator power could be backed up and run smoothly even if there was a power cuts. Edison also invented a meter so customers could be charge for their energy consumption, but the meter would only work with his DC system. The main disadvantage of a DC system is that it ran on 110 volts starting from its generation right until it reaches its destination. This meant that it would have a very short transmission range as the DC current could not be transformed to lower or higher voltages, losing its efficiency the longer the length. To reduce the cost of thicker copper cables for generating and transmitting higher voltages, generating plants had to be placed in between busy cities and could only supply a home or a business less than a mile away. Tesla thought he had the solution to the Edison problems with his use of alternating current (AC) power. Generated using his induction motor, AC current alternates the direction of current a certain number of times a second (which is called the frequency of the current, measured in hertz Hz) which could easily change voltages with the use of a transformer. High voltage meant the current could travel great distances with minimal losses, then be stepped down to a lower manageable voltage at the consumer. Around this time another American inventor and entrepreneur George Westinghouse, who began in the electric lighting business using a DC system, soon became aware of the new European transformer based AC systems. He understood that using this system would be possible for a greater economy of scale as a transformer could supply a high voltage to applications that needed that type of voltage such as arc lighting. Any other applications which required a lower voltage could be achieved as well. Westinghouse recognised that this system could easily compete with Edisons DC system which was in place at the time. Impact of the Induction Motor in Modern Times Tesla explained that these three alternating currents would have toi ve out of phase with each other by 120 degrees in order to create rotating magnetic field, but there is nothing to indicate that he understood in 1882 the signifigannce of having the currents out of phase. My idea Tesla explained, was that the more wires I used the more perfect would be the action of the motor. References Communications, W., 2016. MPowerUK. Why Did Adolf Pick The Jews? :: essays research papers
Why Did Adolf Pick The Jews? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- People sometimes ask why the Jews were the people to get harmed during the Holocaust or why Holocaust even happened. Jews were the targets of Holocaust because Adolf Hitler hated Jews and blamed them for all of the problems in the world. He mainly blamed them for Germany's loss in World War I. Hitler told the German that they could have won the war, if the Germany had not been "stabbed in the back" by the Jews. While Hitler's hate was the main reason for Holocaust, we are not sure why it was allowed to go on to the death of most the Jews and the others that Hitler hated. Hitler was helped in his planning of Holocaust by the fact that discrimination against Jews was acceptable in Germany and few spoke out against it, but that is not a complete answer. We must look instead to the fact that the Nazi general beliefs permeated all things of life in Nazi Germany until there was no one left to protest against Holocaust. At the Nuremberg Trial, where the surviving leaders of the Nazi group were tried for their crimes, two of the witnesses were asked whether Holocaust was an inevitable result of Nazi general beliefs. Otto Ohlendorf, an SS officer who commanded a group which murdered the Jews, thought that Holocaust was not a necessary result of Nazi general beliefs. A few days later Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski, a general in the SS who had fought in the invasion of the Soviet Union, did not agree. He said, "If for years, for decades, a doctrine is preached to the effect that the Slav race is an inferior race, that the Jews are not even human beings, then an explosion of this sort is inevitable.

Challenges of Living with Diabetes Essays -- Health Medicine
A long-term health condition can also be referred to as a ââ¬Ëchronic illnessââ¬â¢ and it can be used to define recurring conditions such as asthma, arthritis, and diabetes. When living with a long-term health condition it can for some people present them with many new challenges. Not only does it take time for them to adapt and accept their illness but also they may feel affected not just physically, but psychologically, culturally, and sometimes even personally such as financial or relationships with family and friends. In this essay, I will examine in turn the main challenges people with diabetes face. Sometimes with diabetes, a person may feel an array of emotions when their illness has been diagnosed this can vary from being confused, and anxious about their health and future, to feeling resentment and frustration with their own bodies. It is also common that many people who have long-term health conditions can also be susceptible to depression and stress when attempting to deal with the aspects of their illness, such as being reliant on insulin injections or having to take care about what they eat and drink. As explained in an article by W.H Polonsky. (K101, Resources 3, pg19 ) Many individuals may feel as if they have lost control of their everyday routines, or are somewhat defeated when following treatments programmes and not being able to see an improvement in health. Recently healthcare professionals recognized that if they provide patients with well-defined, straightforward information and knowledge about their illness, it could encourage people to take more of an involved role in managing their condition, such as setting achievable goals, or becoming better practiced at monitoring and managing insulin levels. A Brief History of Turkish Cinema
The Turkish cinema traced its beginnings from a private show in Paris on December 22, 1895 at the Grand Cafà © by French brothers, Louis and Auguste Lumiere.à Similar such shows came to Turkey at the Sultanââ¬â¢s Court, Yildz Palace and other public ones like that of Sigmund Weinberg at the Sponeckââ¬â¢s Beerhouse in Galatasarayââ¬â¢s Square. In 1914, ââ¬Å"The Destruction of the Russian Monument at Avastefonasâ⬠is acknowledged to be the first ever Turkish film.à This was a 150 meter long documentary by Fuat Uzkinav, an army officer. The film ââ¬Å"The Marriage of Master Himmetâ⬠was began in 1914 but took long to finish because the actors served in the war of the Dardanelles.à It was finally completed in 1918, when Uzkinav took over from Weinberg, who first worked on the project.à Several other films, mostly on World War I were shot.à In 1922 the first film company was formed.à Muhsin Ertugrul, a theater artist switched to film direction. He mad e a total of 30 films in the entire stretch of his cinematic career.à His important works included the 1923 ââ¬Å"Shirt of Fireâ⬠which was about the war for independence, starred by the first female artist, the 1931 ââ¬Å"The Streets in Istanbul, the first film to use a soundtrack, and ââ¬Å"A Nation Awakesâ⬠in 1932.The influence of theater can be seen in his films.à Muhsin became a very important figure of the cinema industry.à In the 1950s cinema took its own form.à Lutfu Akad led the pack of new directors.à The theme ofà most films of the era was societal problems.à In the 1960s the advent of television had disadvantageous effects on cinema.à Cinematic films during the period dealt with the social and economic themes.à à In the 1980s the state supported the cinema industry.à Turkish films earned international recognition.à These films were on social and psychological subjects as well as womenââ¬â¢s rights.à The films in the 1990s were fewer but they were of superior quality than before due to advances in technology, training available, international awards and state support.à Theaters and big cinemas emerge, visual aspects were given focus, and outdoor theaters grew. For a while television and videos took the attention away from cinemas, but foreign films from Europe and the US substituted for the lack of local films.à The current status of Turkish cinema strikes a balance with the stateââ¬â¢s support of the European Cinema Union and Turkish partnerships with foreign ventures. There is also a noted growth in the number of movie theaters as well as in the positive developments and changes in theater as well.BibliographyTurkish Cinema History.à (2005).à Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism [Internet] Available from http://www.kutur.gov.tr/EN/BelgeGostner.aspx [Accessed 17 November 2008] Ã

Chabahar Port
Chabahar Free Trade- Industrial Zone (CFZ) is an Iranian free trade zone on the coast of the Gulf of Oman in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. It is formed according to the law on the establishment and administration of free trade-industrial zones. It was established in 1992 along with the two other free trade zones, Qeshm and Kish Island to use global expertise, mostly from South East Asia, as a tool for the development of the country, accelerating the accomplishment of infrastructures, creation of productive employment, and representation in the global markets.Chabahar free trade-industrial zone achieved its importance mainly from its geographical location as the shortest and the most secure route connecting Central Asian Independent States (CIS) and Afghanistan to warm waters and itââ¬â¢s proximately to one of the largest oil, gas and mineral resources of the world and as the only ocean port of the country. It is the closest and best access point of Iran to the Indian Ocean. For this reason, Chabahar is the focal point of Iran for development of the east of the country through expansion and enhancement of transit routes among countries situated in the northern part of the Indian Ocean and Central Asia. The hope is that with the development of transit routes, and better security and transit services, the benefits will reach the area residents. Chabahar free trade-industrial zone has started its activities in 1995 focusing on these major activities; transit and urban development and education under the administration of public controlled Chabahar free trade-industrial zone organization. In 2002 Chabahar free trade-industrial zone organization established five specialized subsidiary bodies with the permission of the secretariat of high council of Iran free trade-industrial zones, including four holding companies and one education center that is listed below: 1-à à à à à à à à Holding company of Transit and Development of Trading. 2-à à à à à à à à Holding company of Investment and Industrial Development. 3-à à à à à à à à Holding company of Social Welfare and Tourism Development. 4-à à à à à à à à Holding company of Professional Civil and Civic Development. ââ¬âà à à à à à à à International University of Chabahar. In 2007, Chabahar free zone canceled some of the subsidiary bodies and turned them into sections of Chabahar free zone organization. Its economic sectors are fishery industries and commercial sector, fishery sectors with largest amount of countryââ¬â¢s fish catch, mainly located out of the Chabahar free zone. Growing commercial sector located at free trade area with high potentiality to turn to a place that would connect business growth centers is South Asia (India) and Middle East (Dubai) to Central Asian and Afghanistan market.Government plan to link Chabahar free trade area to Iranââ¬â¢s main rail network which is connected to Central As ia and Afghanistan would provide more capability for Chabahar to faster logistics sector that is a basic to achieve better position comparing to its competitor (Pakistan port of Gwadar). Iran plans to use Chabahar for transshipment to Afghanistan and Central Asia while reserving the port of Bandar Abbas as a major hub mainly for trade with Russia and Europe.Along with Bandar Abbas, Chabahar is the Iranian entrepot on the North-South corridor. A strategic partnership between India, Iran and Russia to establish a multi- modal transport link connecting Mumbai with St. Petersburg. Providing Europe and the former Soviet republics of Central Asia access to Asia and vice-versa. There are two jetties, Shahid Beheshti and Shahid Kalantari. Shahid Beheshti jetty with 18,000 square meters sheltered warehouse, comprehends the capacity of receiving the vessels of 100,000 gross tonnages.Shahid Kalantari jetty with 42,000 square meters sheltered warehouse is able to have the vessels berth. By a we ll developed road network, Chabahar has the access to the other neighboring countries as well as the Middle Asian states. The existence of transport terminal, with a capacity of receiving approximately 1,000 trucks and lorries daily makes the transportation of different types of produced, imported or transited goods possible through the land roads. It can also open bank credit directly through the zone banks.According to statistics in Farvardin 1388(March-April 2009),80,660 tons of goods with value of $41,800,000 were imported through Chabahar Custom, were mainly wheat, rubber ingredients, chemical fertilizers, mechanical and industrial machineries. Software restriction policies - Research Paper Example Hence, software restriction strategies are one of the most important management qualities in Windows-Server-2003 and Windows-XP (Microsoft). This paper presents an overview of software restriction policies. Basically, this paper will discuss its possible functions, advantages and applications. Software restriction policies are one of the most important characteristics of active directory group policy. In this scenario, system administrators are able to define these policies on a temporary basis, depending on specified principles and users cannot avoid it. In fact, software restriction policies offer a capability to fight productively with a wide variety of security threats and issues such as Trojans and viruses, ActiveX controls (permit or prohibit definite ones), installation of software (that for instance is not the ones we require executing on client systems) and application of malicious Email attachments (Florianââ¬â¢s Blog; Microsoft). In addition, software restriction policies work on the basis of a rule-set that we use to describe the policy, read from the first one to the last, the significant rules that assess the running application in an excellent way and gets applied. Additionally, we can configure SRP using the following node: CompConf\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Software Restriction PoliciesÃâ by right-clicking the node and selecting ââ¬ËNew Software Restriction Policiesââ¬â¢ (Florianââ¬â¢s Blog; Microsoft). I have presented below the image of software restriction policies that describes the overall rules and regulations used to develop and apply these policies: Moreover, we can apply strict policies according to the situation for instance, deny all the software applications except the one that I white-list by means of my policy or a lesser strict policy that allows us to run a software application on
